The Perfect Teen Bedroom

When your child grows up, you’ll notice that they like to spend more and more time on their own in their room! While you may not welcome this development, it’s pretty pointless trying to fight it. It’s all part of growing up and hopefully it’s a phase that your teenage child won’t be stuck in forever.

Probably the best thing you can do is make an effort to embrace this change and provide them with a really nice space of their own to be in. Bedrooms are no longer just a place to sleep. They’ll have homework to do so they need a decent desk and chair to work at. They’ll also want to have their friends come and spend time in their rooms, so it’s good to provide some kind of seating apart from them having to perch on the bed.

If there’s room, you could get them a small sofa for their room, or if space is limited, one of the recliner chairs that you’ll see in a lot of furniture stores at the moment. And while you’re changing the furniture, it’s probably a good time to redecorate.

The best way to go about this kind of project is to get your teen involved. Unless they’re really ungrateful, they’ll probably be enthusiastic about updating their room and ready to get stuck in with the painting and decorating. It can be a great way to spend some quality time together, if you dedicate a weekend to repainting the walls together. You could also get them to choose the kind of furniture they’d like, but it’s worth setting some limits on budgets and styles before you go to the shops.

You don’t want to risk having an argument over something which is supposed to be a treat for them!
